6 things you are most thankful for this year

I cannot help but participate in a post about being thankful. No matter how bad things may be, no matter my lack of employment and dwindling savings, life it pretty damn [that's right, I said it!] good! Damnit!

1. My kids. I have some of the greatest kids in the world. I know everyone says this, but I don’t know what I did to deserve such great kids. I was a rotten child ~ sorry mom & dad.
2. My parents. No matter what I do they are always there. Sure, they let me know when they do not approve, but they love me anyway. I still don’t feel worthy when they tell me how proud they are of me. Me? Proud? I’m trying to listen and believe. My mom is never wrong!
3. Our continued health. My mom is doing quite well with her chemotherapy and we’re hopeful she has many, many more years ahead of her. Megan, Amanda, & I have all caught colds this year, but not H1N1 {knock on wood}, so it could be worse.
4. Graduation! That is right. I am graduating THIS YEAR not next! December 19th is my last day of class and I will be receiving my BA in Accounting. Woo Hoo!
5. My writing. I am participating in NaNoWriMo this year. My book is based on many of the feelings I keep buried inside. Thanks to Heather and her wonderful insights on my recent excerpt I have had a breakthrough even I didn’t realize I was having. Of course this may mean I will need to see a therapist when I am done, but that could be a really good thing for me!
6. Dwayne [DH]. He has taught me so much about myself and family, self-worth and people. I don’t always do what he suggests, but I am learning ~ the hard way, of course.

I have never felt happier than I do right now. I’m not worried because I know something good is waiting just beyond the horizon.

3. Apple [they even made a commercial about me - it's the second one]
4. Sears [they have some great clothes, but I refuse to pay that much - yeah, I'm old ~ and cheap]

6 things (good or bad) you credit your mother-in-law for

First, I have to say that it hurts me to end that statement with a preposition. Yes, I am a nerd.

Oh, I know there are many out there who do not care much for their mother-in-law. I am not one of them. My mother-in-law passed away in November 1994. It was the day after Thanksgiving. I was 23 years old. Wow, has it really been 15 years?

1. a woman can do anything, even fix a radiator, if she really wants
2. my love of macaroons – she made the best & gave me the recipe
3. Amanda’s rocking obsession – apparently this is a passed down tradition
4. teaching me there is no shame in dumpster diving if it means making your [grand]daughter happy
5. reminding me of the importance of listening, especially when you are the only one they can tell their fears and acceptances
6. my sister – there aren’t many people who have put up with me for the past 21 years, I know it’s not easy

Goodness, this was a sappy post. Good thing you can’t see me I’m not crying. My eyes get all puffy; it’s not a pretty sight.

Everyone loves a party, especially when there is cake! Mmm

1. Just got stood up at the altar? Let’s throw a party! You didn’t marry someone you would end up divorcing later. That calls for cake!
2. The test was negative! YAY! I love kids, but come on, you finally lost all that baby weight from the last kid. Let’s have some low-fat cake and party like it’s 1999.
3. The plane not only arrived on time, the airline did not lose your luggage. Yippee! Call the girls and let’s celebrate!
4. I didn’t wear my pj’s all day. Awesome! Then you should be ready to see people. Can you say party?
5. I just got fired! You hated that place anyway. Besides, now you can spend more time with your family and friends. This calls for extra special, it’s not my birthday, birthday cake. Because birthday cake is the bomb!
6. It’s October 10th. I just so happen to have some pumpkin cup cakes. Are you game?

6 things you say, but wouldn’t want your children to repeat

Talk about your self-reflection. I can be a bit opinionated. Yeah, hard to believe, huh? Alas, It is true. That is right, I said ‘alas’. Anywho, I will say things that are not to be repeated, but are to be heard. It has taken some time for my son to understand this difference. He still is learning the fine art of appropriateness.

1. Listen to that. I never want you to come across as that uncouth. (Yes, I actually say uncouth). This is in reference to all of the people I hear shuffling their feet across the floor/ground. Scuff, scuff, scuff… ARG!!!! Pick up your feet, already!
2. Do not take it badly, they cannot help it if you know more words than they do and ones with more syllables. This is in reference to the majority of my kids’ teachers. It is worse when it refers to their English teachers. So sad.
3. Smart ass! That is right, my favorite phrase and everyone in my house is one [including yours truly]. Anyone who knows me knows I say this often and without apology. Hey, it could be worse!
4. Just because all of your friends are bigger than you [fatter] does not mean you should be complacent with how you look and what you eat. Did you know that obesity perpetuates itself because we hang out with people larger than ourselves and say ‘at least I’m not as big as so and so’? Hey, I use this sometimes, too. I am not proud of this and am forever aware of my weight. Which seems to like to hover at about …

I know, I know it is supposed to be six things, not four. Since I either a) cannot think of anything else, b) what I can think of is just too horrible, and/or c) will not share, I will leave you with some pretty [random] pictures. Enjoy!

This week’s topic: 6 things you love or hate about your neighbors

This should be interesting. I live extremely rural. Let’s see, my neighbors consist of two brothers across the street – one lives with his son and the other lives with his wife – whose parents used to live in my house and one couple who live towards the backside of our property and their son and his wife live in a modular recently built on a portion of their property. I did say this is a rural area, right?

1. I love that my neighbors are few and far between (across a major road or to the backside of my 6+/- acres).
2. I love that my neighbors are watchful – so nice of them to let me know of the chicken accident.
   
3. I hate that my neighbors are watchful – I like to walk in privacy in my pj’s down to the chicken coop in the morning (rural, remember).
4. I hate that so many people honk at my neighbors while driving by – many cars drive by and it can be hard to determine if they are honking at the neighbors, the chickens, or each other.
5. I love that my neighbors are almost always on the front porch waiting to wave at those who pass by (this can be a hate as well, but it is mostly endearing).
6. I hate that my neighbors are old and will not be around as long as I would like – growing old sucks!
