The Wedding: 10 Years in the Making

Okay, we’re just slow to get to the altar. Yet, there was no altar.

Vows were said. Rings exchanged. And it was all sealed with a kiss.

What more could a simple boy and girl want!

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Last April Dwayne & I decided we were ready to get married. Okay, I decided I was ready to get married. The plan was to get hitched while my parents were in town, but we had very little luck with the justice of the peace. Instead we postponed everything to the summer. In May we decided on August. By June my mom had succumbed to Ovarian cancer, but the wedding would go on as planned.

We eventually chose August 13th, since I just liked the idea of getting married on Friday the 13th. And an appointment was made with the justice of the peace at the Alachua County Courthouse in Gainesville, FL.

Last Wednesday we loaded the kids and our things in the car and drove to Florida (woo hoo!). Thursday we obtained our license to marry. Friday we gathered at the courthouse for a quaint ceremony gathered by those who love and support us.

Dinner was at Harry’s, a New Orleans style restaurant walking distance from the courthouse. And cake was held over for Saturday. We decided on a nice baby back rib bbq with fresh fruit and veggies.

Sunday was spent catching up and relaxing a bit. Monday we made the trek back to Virginia, Ivy dog, and our chickens.

And thus the beginning of the rest of our lives is upon us…

Anne, I’m so happy for you. This is wonderful, and I hope that you two will grow old and contented together – and share countless happy memories.

@Holly Jahangiri, Thank you, Holly. My dad said he had never seen us so happy as when we stood there saying our vows.

@Sire, Thanks, Sire. I’m kinda fun like that. Amanda said I should have scheduled it for 1 pm instead of 3, ya know, the 13th hour? :)

@Emma @ Divorced Before 30, Thank you, Emma. All the pomp and circumstance is nothing compared to two people who have been together for 10 years to still love each other so much they can’t help but smile [he almost cried] and pledge their love for one another.

I noticed my glaringly large typo, not once, but twice. lol Yet, maybe alter fits somehow. Thank goodness the grammar police didn’t catch that one. Whew!

Congratulations Anne! Y’all look like you’re very happy, as do the kids. Have a great honeymoon and all that other stuff; that is, if you’re going on one, which could be hard with the kids. lol

    Congratulations!!!

    Best Wishes!!!

Gee, your kids are getting all grown up. You must look at them and go “Wow — how did this happen to my wee babies?!?!”

And how come you never told me you were so absolutely gorgeous??
