I’ve been experimenting with homemade tortillas. See, Dwayne’s been home a lot lately since his back has been bothering him. {Falling off a roof will do that to a person.} A few Fridays ago Amanda took him to the doctor and they gave him two shots, one of which knocked him loopy for three days. I guess that’s one way to get him to stop and rest. So, when they arrive home Friday afternoon he requested fajitas. Of course I have no tortilla shells. I suggest stir fry and disappointment crosses his face.
Fine.
I had Amanda find a recipe online and we proceed to make our own homemade tortillas.
Not bad, huh?
The flour tortilla recipe was straightforward, but I would suggest having a marble rolling pin (which is what I used) or a tortilla press (which I will be purchasing).
I always hear the saying ‘never trust a skinny cook’. Not sure I completely agree with that. I mean, Gordon Ramsey isn’t fat. I prefer to say ‘never trust a neat cook’.
But, {yeah, there’s always a but} he prefers corn tortillas over the flour ones. So, tonight I made tacos for Amanda and searched for a different tortilla recipe. I’m fairly sure these were some odd version of corn pancakes. They were edible. They will not be made again. And a huge mess was made. Eh, these things happen.
Oh, you want to know how much it all costs?
Well, the flour was bought on sale for something around $1, but I also inherited an insane amount of flour from my mother when she passed. On average you can get a 5 pound bag of all-purpose flour for around $2. Baking powder is about $1 or so (again, I have several cans in the cupboard). You would think I bake/cook a lot or something. Salt is super cheap and most everyone has this in their house. And water is free! So, for less than 50¢ I made 11 delicious flour tortillas, I know every ingredient, and I saved money. ♫ Love it! ♫

I’d LOVE to be knocked loopy for a few days. Well, for one day maybe.
Yummy (economical) love hearts in the tummy!
xo
And I can see your design is perfect for wide pix, whoo-hoo. Unveiling soon?

@Jannie Funster, I’m surprised he remembers anything from that weekend. haha But those tortillas were quite tasty (I’ll be making some more tonight – chicken fajitas!).
I’ve been prepping my site for largish images. Hopefully there will be some good shots of my upcoming nuptials. I will be sure to drop you a line so you can check it out.

I love fajitas. Back in January I posted about making chicken on chicken burgers but by the end of the day they turned into chicken on chicken fajitas. I just used store bought tortillas. The blog is officially closed but I linked to it above in case you want to see the pictures.
Better than the food was the fun we had playing in the kitchen and outside grill.
BTW, chicken on chicken burgers is my own invention. Another true story… I invented cheese sticks

@Brian D. Hawkins, Hmm, so you’re either a multi-millionaire parading around as an everyday joe or you failed to market those tasty little cheese-filled treats before the corporate big cheese [pun intended] did.
Fajitas are good, though. And I love homemade anything. My mom truly spoiled us growing up.
