Last week I learned of another possible opportunity for making a little something, something. This utilizes Google Adsense and considering I’ve made just under $16 in my almost 17 months of blogging I would say I could use all the help I can get with generating a payout.
Xomba doesn’t look like much from the onset, but the more information I gather, the more interested I am.
How it works
This is coming straight from the source:
1. You post an article about something you’re passionate about.
2. Your post then gets placed into powerful search engines which deliver an audience of interested readers directly to your work.
Others have the opportunity to read your article, thus allowing them to discover fun, interesting, and useful information. Your chance to earn money comes from this audience, and your chances of article exposure are much greater than any standard blog or forum, because of this community.
You can write two types of posts: Articles and Bookmarks.
Articles must be a minimum of 150 words. These can be reviews to how-to guides or anything else of interest.
Bookmarks are blurbs of at least 100 words that lead to another article [blog posts, interesting images, Squidoo pages, etc.]
How you get paid
First, you must have a Google Adsense account.
Xomba does not pay you per post, page view, or in any manner really. Xomba is more of a get-the-word-out-there and revenue-sharing type of system. This is where Google Adsense comes in.
When you sign up you will enter your Google Adsense account number. Xomba then splits Adsense revenue with you 50/50. What does this mean? You are paid via your Google Adsense account.
Now, it gets better.
You write a bookmark and earn 50% of the Adsense revenue from visits to that bookmark on Xomba. Then those visitors click on the link to the article you wrote, say, on your blog, and you can earn even more from Adsense [if it is on your site, too].
But don’t just take my word for it.
Here is what others have to say:
Allison West’s One Year Review [November 2009]
Athlyn Green – check out the comments [August 2009]
Article Rewriter Softwares – Review of Xomba [January 2010]
Xomba’s Alexa site stats
Value Added Benefits
- page rank of 5
- online since February 1999
- Alexa rank of 2,555
- do-follow [unconfirmed, but reportedly so]
- a great way to build backlinks
- expose even more people to your site, work, wares, etc.
A few final thoughts
Last year I signed up with Squidoo and wrote about 10 lenses. It was about six months later when I received my first payment. I have earned about $80 off of those 10 lenses [with zero promotion]. My point? Don’t expect to see a windfall immediately. Anything is possible, but realistically it will take some time.
Additionally, you may want to consider setting up Adsense Channels for your articles and bookmarks as a way of tracking your progress. But don’t obsess [like me]. Hey, I made 7¢ yesterday for a blog I haven’t posted to in over 3 months. It’s going to work, the question will be, how fast?
Ready to sign up?
Why not use my Xomba affiliate link.
And if you know something I don’t, [which is a distinct possibility] please share it in a comment below.

What I nice blog here !

You are having me head tilted scrutinizing your picture : I can’t believe how young you look, I mean 3 kids ? really ? wow !
I didn’t like Xomba at first, I thought it looked cluttered. But I liked that they don’t review your articles before publishing, so I started using it to test keywords. But I got readers !
The AdSense may not sound like a lot of money, but I use articles for marketing my blogs only. So, whatever the amount each month, this is passive income from something I would have done for free anyway.
ciao !
wo hoo for passive income

@Marie, It’s just a really good picture.
Anything that pays you for doing something you were going to do anyway can’t be all that bad. I did some checking and couldn’t find anything bad about them. But I’m sure it’s like anything else, you get what you put into it.
I’m going to have to spend some more time seeing what’s there and will be sure to post follow ups. I still have some looking around of your site as well. A few articles caught my eye.
Thanks for stopping by.

@Sire, Okay, now that’s just freaky. Not that you found this interesting or signed up using my affiliate [thank you, btw], but that I was just heading over to your site when I saw this comment come through. Hmmm
Actually, I thought this might be something right up your alley. I even checked your site first to see if you had posted about it. I haven’t found anything negative on them so here’s hoping it puts a little $$$ in our hands.

@DiTesco, No problem. Sire has a slightly different take from me, too. It seems simple, but will take some time to build.

Anne, this stuff all takes a lot of time to build, like 2-3 years minimum from everything I’ve read. And that’s with constant diligence adding content to your sites.
However…
It compounds on itself. So once it starts to take off, less effort should see greater results.

@Dave Doolin, I’ve read several where it took about 6 months of consistent bookmarking and working it to start seeing anything and about a year to really see any payment from Adsense from it. Then again, if we’re in it for the long haul 2-3 years isn’t that long and it’s just another stream of income. Right? I was just surprised I hadn’t heard anything negative, not that that is a bad thing.

Sounds interesting, I may need to give it a shot. I’ll read the TOS and see what all is involved. Do they have a good internet rep?

@Ms. Freeman, I have yet to find anything negative on them. PR is a 5, Alexa shows them being around for awhile, and they monitor what is posted. With all the writing you’re doing this could be a great way to promote while bringing in a little extra income, but all reports do show it takes about 6 months to really see anything, then it just keeps growing. I’ve posted about 10 bookmarks so far.
