Not for nothing, but why does everyone have to write a post about a Facebook deal, post it on Facebook for everyone to see, then have their fans/followers/ whathaveyou go to their blog, click on a link, come back to Facebook, and hope the deal is still available?

Sure, write the post, but if you are on Facebook updating why not have a direct link when it’s time-sensitive in nature?

Do you really want to spread the word about the deal or your blog?

I appreciate others finding and sharing all these great offers. I thank them often with comments, blog posts, tweets, sharing on Facebook, etc.

BUT…

Couldn’t these same great sites share these Facebook offers on Facebook with a link to the Facebook fan page? Would it hurt their bottom line that much?

Has goodwill become obsolete in blogging?

Goodwill – An intangible asset which provides a competitive advantage, such as a strong brand, reputation, or high employee morale.

InvestorWords.com

AND IF THEY CAN’T…

Would it be too much to ask that they have a site which might load in this century so I could get to their site, get the post loaded, find the link back to Facebook, click the link, and maybe have enough time to get in on the great deal? Pretty please?

I’m guilty, too

Of a slow-loading site.

Yet, I rarely post something that is going on RIGHT NOW and ask you to come see my post then it will tell you where to go from there. If I see something time sensitive – RIGHT NOW – I link directly to it from wherever I am. But that is just how I am.

RANT END

What do you think?

Is this self-serving behavior? Does every single deal updated on Facebook [or Twitter] have to point back to one’s blog/webpage? Do I not get this either?

Give it to me straight. I can handle it.

I guess I’m behind the loop on so much of this, I do have a TweetMeme now, but am not linked via FB to Twitter.

I guess linking back to one’s blog is kinda human nature? :) If a link is available, most of us will use it.

I do feel strongly that as long as we are giving more than we get — in life in general — or at least trying to give and help others, we will always get back more than we ever dreamed.

@Jannie Funster, Yeah, I know we all link back to our blogs, but my question was more of a ‘if you’re on Facebook and you see a deal and you want to share it to your Facebook followers are you going to go write a post to share on Facebook that links to your post only to take your readers back to Facebook, or could you share via Facebook pointing directly to the offer, the go back and write a post about it for those not checking you out on Facebook?’ I know it’s all so confusing, but sometimes I think people share just to drive traffic to their site since the time it takes to finally get to the offer ends up with many not getting in on it after all. Sigh. It’s probably just me. :)

Some people have special talent for making things complicated. Good news is that you’d remember them well enough not to check them out again. :)

I know I link to stuff in my tweets that doesn’t benefit me at all. Well, ok, if you insist, I guess by being a good netzien and tweeting about things of value, I am unceasing my own popularity which I can eventually use for promoting my stuff.

    Is that really that bad?

@Anne Moss, No, we all want to drive traffic to our sites. My concern was with time-sensitive offers.

I noticed the other day on Facebook many people telling their followers to hurry up and get in on this on particular deal that was only open to a limited number of people. These bloggers were on Facebook communicating with their followers and still they sent them to their blog to get the information that would take them right back to Facebook.

I thought this was a little ridiculous. Not that I don’t appreciate what they do or their desire to draw traffic, but I would [and have] visited sites that gave me good information without them forcing me to see their site first.

    Anne,

I’m guilty. I don’t know when the last time is I posted something on facebook that didn’t link back to my blog. I’m surprised I don’t see my friend’s list going down daily. They are going to have to add a new button under my status update that says ‘comment’, ‘like’, ‘dropasfriend’.

@Julie at jbulie’s blog, I share things that point back here, but if I score something great on Facebook [or anywhere else] and want to share that I will without pointing others here, especially if there are limited quantities.

Self-promoting is a good thing, but goodwill can drive traffic as well. Right?

I post links back to my blog for articles I have written so my readers that don’t blog can read it. Not everyone on Facebook and Twitter has a blog. I like to run affiliate links on Twitter and Facebook that don’t link back to my blog as well.

@Ms. Freeman, Yes, but do you post time-sensitive information while on Facebook telling your readers to go to your site only to send them back to Facebook? This was where I felt some people were really being a bit selfish in their sharing. Sure, write the post, too, since your feed, email, and other readers may not see the link on Facebook.

It’s all good, Anne. I’m still waiting for my sister to say ‘stop it already’ with my non stop posts. People still seem to say thank you. I’m guessing that if you are truly giving away information you can do it here on your blog or there on facebook. You say tomayto, I say tomahto. Julie

@Julie at jbulie’s blog, I say why not give it away on both, but if you’re on Facebook posting time-sensitive information requiring the person to be on Facebook why not post a direct link instead of re-routing them to your site first? I think it’s just me. ;)

Even businesses do this a lot. I did a radio interview last year and before the show they asked me not to give my website URL. They just ask the listeners to go to their website where they put a link to mine. I appreciated the link but it seemed a little stingy to make everyone go through their site to get to mine.

@Brian D. Hawkins, I notice our local tv stations do this. Guess it’s not so bad, but if you’re already there and they send you away just to send you back it’s a bit irritating. Then again, they could allow you to give your URL, then mention it is also listed on their site for anyone who missed it. A win-win for all, right?
