WOW! I have a sister in Leesburg and she said they got like 32 inches of snow, kids are out of school and everything is shut down.

Being from Ct originally its pretty to look at and fun to play in the first day or two, but I don’t miss all that white stuff…

    Have fun! :)

@Ms. Freeman, This is the worst it’s been since we moved up this way. We did get a bit of it in 2003, but nearly this much. I’ll be patiently awaiting spring’s pretty colors.

You know Anne, I’ve only ever seen snow during my holiday in New Zealand, and I loved it, but I’m not sure if I could put up with it for a whole season.

Nice photos too. Looks like the chickens found a nice place to roost and they probably concocted the smiley face in appreciation :)

@Sire, We’re growing a bit tired of it ourselves. Every so often snow slides down the roof. It sounds like thunder off in the distance. We don’t typically get this much snow. Just one of those winters.

The chickens were very happy to see me when I came back around. All 13 came out to enjoy a little sustenance. Maybe they made the smiley, but their eggs are appreciation enough. :)

Hi Anne I have seen you bouncing around (TRYING to avoid me )on our friends blogs and been wanting to say something I been by before :) Where I live now they haven’t had snow since 1985. Sometimes I think about moving back up north but when it’s 50 out and my teeth are chattering I usually let those dreams pass :)
I actually demoed this theme on a site and like it alot :)
Glad I stopped by and PLS don’t be scared of me I know I often pop off some off beat stuff but he we all have our tactics ;) Happy Blogging

@John Sullivan, Who, me? Avoid people? Uh, well, maybe, but not you, not today at least. ;) I’ve lived up this way for almost 8 years now and my dad has yet to leave the comfort of South Florida to visit. He says anything north of Orlando is too far north and even Orlando skirts that sometimes. Hell, I often wonder what I was thinking, but it doesn’t snow like this here every year.

I’m glad you stopped by, too.

Did that snow eventually give up and slide off?? I like the sound when it finally lets go and the flooomp of its landing.

Wow, I never knew chickens went outdoors in snowy winter — and I grew up on a farm. But Mom and Dad’s house is close to a highway, so the chickens were mostly kept indoors. The bantams used to go out tho,and stay close to the barn. They actually would chase the cats!

    Gorgeous trees!

@Jannie Funster, It did finally fall although I missed its “whump”. I did get to hear it slide off the front porch last night. After days of listening to it slide I finally took some pictures of the overhang. Then last night it fell with a glorious “thump!” and I just had to scoot out there [in bare feet no less] to investigate.

The chickens don’t venture too far from the coop in this weather. In fact, the wind is so harsh today they are staying inside. We are near a semi busy road and plan to fence in an area for them. Less for the road/car/chicken issue and more for the chicken crap everywhere you walk issue.

I decided to lay on the ground to get a different angle for the trees and schoolhouse. One day I’m going to renovate that old schoolhouse and make it a library. My dream.

Hey Anne, really nice pics! It almost makes winter seem “nice” LOL
My favorite pic there is the trees one with the swing being a close second.
Here in NW Indiana, we get a fair dumping every year as well.
But when I look at snow sliding off the roof, all I can think of is “I hope that doesn’t melt and wick up into my roof sheathing” ROFL. :)

@Allyn, Hi Allyn. It was the property that drew us to this place. The house is old and a bit small [our garage is almost as big as our house], but the lay of the land is so great. We have lots of trees, an old schoolhouse [our neighbors actually went to school there], a stream [with a natural spring] and an old road running from one end to the other.

Everyone here is tired of winter, but we should enjoy it while we have it. We don’t get snow like this every year.

I was pausing at the ‘smiley face’ for a while trying to figure out which are the eyes.. lol.. got it 10 seconds later. I love the pic of the swing — have been wanting to do that since I was little! Sadly, no snow where I live.

I was told by a friend in Philly the snowy condition is quite serious there as well. Hope can see some Virginia spring pictures soon. It’ll be awesome to experience 4 seasons through Anneonlife. ^^

@Ching Ya, That’s a great idea Ching. I’ll be sure to take a walk through the property and get some seasonal shots throughout the year. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some good garden shots as well.

I almost passed on the smiley, then decided I just could not resist it. As if it were a really good omen.

Anne, those photos are so beautiful! Only YOU would notice the smiley face. And I am still so in love with that old schoolhouse. You can just feel the history sliding off of it!

@Heather Kephart, The smiley face is really funny since it was just outside of where the canopy collapsed on my john boat. Kind of like a nervous ‘oops’. :)

I love the schoolhouse. It needs to be raised and a new foundation put in. I won’t go inside anymore since it could collapse. Right now it has 4 rooms. It looks like it originally had 3, two classrooms and a cloakroom. One day I hope to restore it and make it a library and personal sanctuary.

Thank you. I’m over here in southwestern Virginia way up in the Blue Ridge. Plenty of snow to go around and it looks like we’re in for a bit of a heat wave soon: high 40′s. :)
