Am I the only one who is slightly disturbed by this?

Warning I have a tendency to ramble

I am up late most every night. I could blame it on the lack of a traditional job, but the truth is I am a night owl. There, I said it. I kind of like the quiet of the world and the house late at night. Just me, my laptop [or a book], the tv [I forgot how much I like Patrick Stewart], and my thoughts. Oh, and the dreaded commercialization of every single thing possible.

The Chia Obama sounds more like a Saturday Night Live commercial spoof rather than an actual product. But, nooooo, it is real. It is real disturbing is more like it.

It just seems wrong to capitalize on every little thing. Or is it just me? Are my standards really that high? I mean, I laugh at fart jokes – almost daily – so I cannot believe I have that high of standards on what is proper, can I?

I am one of those girls who likes The Three Stooges and Monty Python, so why would this bother me so? I know the President is just a man. I know many do not even like the President [what else is new]. But I was taught basic respect of my elders which I believe is quite lacking in our society today. We can say and do just about anything and it is okay because we are “evolved”.

Excuse the rant

A few months back there was a lot of talk about the murder of a doctor who happened to perform abortions. Whether you approve or not is irrelevant. The disturbing part was the number of people who applauded this. They applauded murder! God-fearing people who oppose the act of terminating a pregnancy applauded the murder of an actual living, breathing person. Am I the only one who sees the problem with this? This is how wars start people! And, for the record, I am not for abortion [for me], but do support a woman’s right to choose. After all, it is not my place to judge; that is to be left for a higher power.

Okay, my point was about how much we have “evolved”. Seems to me we are still barbarians, just barbarians with slightly better table manners. Have you seen the way people eat? With their mouths open! But that is yet another rant for another day.

What is with kids today?

Shan over at Last Shreds of Sanity wrote a post about how disrespectful children are today. They run amok and no one knows where the parents are and/or if they care. It is my personal belief that many parents today are too busy trying to be “friends” with their kids to bother with actual parenting. I don’t like conflict. I don’t like it when my kids are mad at me. I have taken away privileges and hated it. My kids have respect for authority, well, Stephen is still a work in progress.  No one says you have to be strict to set and enforce rules. Kids want structure.

And have you seen the adults?

What happened to manners? People care when they know you, or pretend they care. Again, another rant for another day. But I want to believe people are basically good. Deep down they know what the right things is and they want to do just that. Or am I just naive?

We have all heard the saying ‘do as I say not as I do’, right? Say it all you want, but know that your children are watching what you do and actions speak louder than words. Lead by example.

In conclusion

All this is to say that I think a Chia Pet of the President of the United States is disrespectful and a bit crass. But that is just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions, don’t you?
