I absolutely adore Drew Barrymore. Really. Sure, she got a little off-track. Like any of us could have handled stardom, and famous family-life, and expectations in the public eye without a slip-up. I remember when she flashed David Letterman and professed undying, forever love to fiance number one [Leland Hayward] and fiance number two [Jamie Walters]; husband number one [Jeremy Thomas] and husband number two [Tom Green]. There are others, some of them women. But it does not matter. In fact, who is to say she does not love all of these men and women? Okay, not like that! I mean, love does not just disappear; it changes.
[I am] in awe because she makes no apologies
But, I digress. Drew Barrymore experienced so many things: drugs, alcohol, engagement, rehab, all before she was 18! What were you doing? By the time she was 20 she formed her own production company. I am in awe! Oh, not for all of that. Anyone can form their own production company by the age of 20, no biggie! I am in awe because she makes no apologies – for anything! Well, maybe for some things, but her life is her life and she is living it. I don’t think Drew [you don't mind if I call you Drew, do you?] is wonderful in spite of her choices, but because of them.
Drew formed her own production company because she want[ed/s] to do the types of films she want[ed/s] to do. How great it that! She likes sappy, doe-eyed characters. Me, too! Klutzes and innocence, believing in love and happy endings those are many of the themes of Ms. Barrymore’s movies and characters. And I am glad.
Have you seen Ever After? You should. Go now. I’ll wait. la di da di da … Wasn’t that one of the best movies you have ever seen? Hmm, go watch again, I’ll wait. dum dee dum … Let’s try this again. Wasn’t that one of the best movies you have ever seen? Me, too! I own it, ya know? Really. I know, I am special like that.
love does not just disappear; it changes
Mostly I think Ms. Barrymore [I just like saying that] is wonderful because I have never not liked her. How many [famous] people can you say that about? Be honest. You’re among friends. No judging going on here.
Other Little Girls Lost
If you take the lessons learned from Ms. Barrymore [it grows on you, right?] you can see how others just may turn their lives around, too. Paris Hilton spent some time in jail and is not as annoying as she once was; still annoying, just not as much. Nicole Richie stopped hanging out with Paris and only appears when she is pregnant; not so annoying anymore. Remember when Angelina Jolie wore a vial of blood around her neck? Now she is adopting the world. Okay, bad example, I still find her annoying.
Britney Spears shaved her head due to all of the stress in her life. Sure, we judge[d] her. She is not fit to raise children, let along have them. Maybe she should not have had [primary] custody of her children while she was dealing with her demons. Maybe she needed some help. Maybe her comeback wasn’t as spectacular as Madonna’s.To me she is not as annoying because she is doing the best she can under the scrutiny of us while we are dealing with all of our issues in the comfort and privacy of our own homes.
I don’t think Drew is wonderful in spite of her choices, but because of them.
Thank you, Drew! I may not be famous, or wealthy, or have a job with a paycheck, but I make no apologies for living my life the only way I know how – through daydreams, optimism, and the great fortune to live out my demons and poor choices without anyone putting the spotlight on me. All of those decisions – good, bad, indifferent – all made [and make] me who I am today. And my children, my family love me in spite of it all.

I love Drew, and I’m a nut too! Let’s get together and make fun of normal people.

hee hee Makes me think of Young Frankenstein and the “Abby Normal” brain. Normal is so overrated.
