Away We Go – What Home Means to Me

This should be a simple description, or so I thought.  Home is not a place, but a feeling, a memory, a thought.  Home is where I feel love and laughter, sadness and loss.  It is where I remember those little moments I hold dear.  Spending time with my grandparents in the summertime at their house at the shore, going to the beach, playing cards, learning to crochet (I did not keep up with this).  Memories of the old tire swing in the tree at the house on Maple Street, sledding down the hill in the winter and riding my skateboard in the summer.  Going out on the boat, swimming in the lagoon, catching frogs and lizards (I was somewhat of a tomboy).  Home was a safe place to be while growing up in a house falling apart.

Home is where my kids are.  They are my heart, after all.  Home is Ivy dog lying on the couch with her head on my lap.  It is where the chickens roam free, then cluck when they see me come outside.  Home is wherever I am, wherever I go.  It is everywhere and nowhere.  Home is not a place, but a feeling, a thought, a memory.

What does home mean to you?  Twitter Moms and the makers of the film Away We Go want to know.
