Spreading the Wealth…Through Coupons

Nothing makes me smile like hearing a family member thank me for helping them save money.  While visiting my mom and step-dad in Florida this past April I shared a few of the tips I learned from all of the wonderful blogs I frequent [often].  They have Publix and Hitchcock’s as their main grocers.  Lucky for them Hitchcock’s has been offering double coupons (up to 50¢) since the beginning of May.  This is practically unheard of in Florida.  And Publix is forever offering buy one get one deals.  I really took advantage of this while I was visiting.

So, I reminded my parents to use 2 coupons if they are buying a B1G1 deal and if they have a B1G1 coupon they can get both free.  Mom did not realize this.  Well, neither did I until I started reading all of these wonderful frugal blogs!  And I showed Dad how the scanner works at CVS, so he can get coupons.  I do not think they have used another coupon for a gift card for filling a prescription, yet.

When they called Sunday they were excited to tell me of their great deals.  Mom had a coupon for disposable razors and was able to get these free.  She will keep these in the guest bathroom just in case.  And Dad received a $1 off for milk at CVS.  He was so excited to tell me he not only paid $1.97 for a gallon of milk, but received another $1 off CRT after he paid!  And a few weeks ago he scanned his card at CVS and received a $5 off $30 CRT which came in really handy.  He tells me he scans his card every time he goes to CVS, just in case.

Then there is Megan’s boyfriend.  I had some free coupons for Marcal toilet paper.  Their website says these can be found at Kroger, but I was having little luck.  I gave her BF my 1 up to $4 off and 4 up to $1 off coupons expiring on 5/31 and told him he should check out the Kroger by him [on his way home].  He texted me (yes, I text) later that night.  He paid 40¢ for 12 rolls of toilet paper.  He thought this was pretty cool.  Now, I was curious how the transaction was processed since Kroger did not carry the single roll packages.  He said they let him use all 5 coupons on the one package of 12.  Well, good for him!  I am going to try a different Kroger to see if they carry the single rolls as I have 3 or 4 more free up to $1 coupons.  Oh, and he gave me the tp.  I thought that was cute.
