Nobody Here But Us Chickens

I estimated today the chickens are about 2 1/2 months old.  A few weeks back they were moved to their permanent home in the chicken coop.  They then spent a few weeks inside to get acquainted and know where “home” is.  Did you know 24 chickens will go through about 50 pounds of feed in about a week and a half?  Good thing they will be free-range.

Today DH felt it was time to let the chickens out of the coop, so to speak.  We have 4 roosters and 20 hens.  Most of the chickens are Reds while 4 are leg-horns (white).  To me they are all pretty.  I spent some time today photographing the chickens outside of the coop, some from afar and some up close.  They seemed to have spent a majority of their time under the coop with the occasional venture into the wild unknown.

OOH,, I wanna visit– I so want chickens, but my neighbors get mad at my cats (definitely not the right place ;)

And your daughter’s smily really is beautiful. I’ll vote for her!

They are really neat animals. This is my first experience with them and so far it is all positive. We went out at [just before] dark and they all returned to the coop before we had even gotten down there. I was really impressed. Good chickens. :)

Thank you so much for voting for my daughter. I know she really appreciates it as well.
