IDL Weekend

Megan & MeI spent the weekend in Centreville, VA with Megan and the rest of the IDL crew.  This was finals weekend.  I was able to attend the first competition at the high school and now finals.  I rather enjoyed myself, even with a complete lack of sleep, sleeping in a sleeping bag on the floor with no pillow, and sleeping on the bus during movies (The Dark Knight on our way there; Madagascar 2 on our way home).  I did learn a new card game – Hand and Foot – and laughed a lot!  And for my fun-filled weekend my payment is three days of double P90X workouts, since I was unable to do them Saturday or Sunday and Monday everyone was home and I was so very tired. Today will be Shoulders & Arms, Ab Ripper X, & Yoga X (my goal is to make it half way through Yoga this time).

Some highlights of our weekend include several trips to the local grocer (Shopper something or other) in which the light drizzle, misting caused my hair to go from normal to “poof” or what I consider my version of an afro!  Quite humorous and not all too pretty.  We had dinner at Ruby Tuesday which was enjoyable and pricey – $10 per person, for burgers!  I did get to sit with some new-to-me kids and we laughed quite a bit.  And created some new sign language for hi, bye, and I don’t know.  Yes, we are an odd bunch.  And the lovely and costly truck accident where at approximately 7 am a drunk driver (we found this out when he was arrested at the scene) pulled out in front of the tractor trailer pulling the equipment causing the semi to jack-knife.  No one was hurt and that in and of itself is a miracle.  The car was totaled (I do not know how the driver walked with only a small cut on the forehead) and our driver was a bit shaken.  Our bus driver was amazing in that he skirted the accident and kept us safely out of harms way.  If not for going a different way to the school, the bus would have been in front of the semi and things could have been quite different.

We made it to the competition late, but safe.  The performance was great, but they did not go on to finals.  We left around 2 pm and arrived back home around 7 pm Sunday night.  I must say band kids are the greatest kids!  Here is a video of them practicing [sans instruments].

FCHS band truck involved in accident

By MORRIS STEPHENSON – Staff Writers

One person was slightly injured in a crash Sunday morning that involved a tractor pulling a trailer, loaded with Franklin County High School band instruments.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Route 28 between Centreville and Dumfries in Northern Virginia.

The vehicles were traveling in fog and rain at the time of the crash. “It was a nasty morning,” said Allison Szuba, assistant band director who was riding in the bus directly behind the rig.

The tractor was operated by owner Roger Osgood, a FCHS band parent. The trailer, loaded with approximately $50,000 worth of student instruments, is owned by the Franklin County High School Band Boosters Club.
