Letters From College(s)

Megan

I do not remember if I wrote about this here or not.  Megan, my lovely eldest child will be graduating high school this year.  I know; I cannot believe it either.  She was so tiny when she came home from the hospital.  She was 18″ and weighed 6 1/2 pounds.  Who am I kidding, I was just a baby myself; not quite 20, recently married, and a baby.  Everyone always says how you look back at your struggles and remember them fondly.  It is all true.  I got to grow up with my kids.  I know it is said you cannot be friends with your kids.  We are supposed to be the parents.  I am definitely mom, but I also am the kind of mom my kids, and their friends, do not mind having around.  Especially when I buy them 20¢ mascara (Meg’s BF was the happy recipient of this).  Hey, it was the free Rimmel mascara and no one in our house will use it.  Might as well give it to someone who will.

jmulogo-grayEnough of my rambling.  I was sitting in the living room last night when Megan started screaming from up in her bedroom.  At first I thought she saw a mouse or something.  Then I heard the cries of “I got in! I got in!”  I immediately knew where.  She comes running downstairs to tell me she was accepted into James Madison University.  Megan wants to be a teacher.  Ever since she could remember this is all she wanted.  The type of teacher has changed over the years.  First it was elementary, then it was math, now it is music.  She does not know if she made it into the music program yet, but that is not an issue.  She can always try out again next year.  This is Megan’s first choice since deciding to not apply at Appalachian State.  The cost of a private out-of-state college was too much.

smartchoice_1Today she received a packet from Radford University.  She also was accepted there.  If given the choice, she will go to JMU.  It is a first rate teaching college, after all.  I am happy for her.  She was starting to feel a bit down about her prospects of acceptance.  Now to get those scholarships so we can afford to send her.  Guess this means I should try harder to find a job.  And just when I was starting to enjoy being a stay-at-home-mom with chickens and school and p90x!  =)
